ITS A DIAPHRAGM SPASM!




      * HCUP HCUP HCUP HCUP HCUP* Ahh! What's happening to *HCUP* me?! I will *HCUP* look this up. 
       
     SUCCESS! I have found the answer to my illness! I'M HAVING DIAPHRAGM  SPASMS! Otherwise know as hiccups. The diaphragm is the sheet of muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen.We randomly make the hiccup sound when air is stopped by our vocal cords. 

        So, what causes hiccups? Here are some reasons:

Eating too quickley

Being excited or stressed out
Smoking

Drinking a hot drink,like coffee, and then a cold drink, like water.

      *HCUP* Thankfully, hiccups only last a couple of minutes and- wait there's something called... persistent hiccups. That's if they last MORE THAN 48 HOURS! I can't imagine having hiccups for that long! But don't worry. Those type of hiccups only occur if you have and illness like anesthesia.  
        Did I scare you? Getting scared to take away hiccups is just a myth. However, there are other ways to get rid of hiccups too:
  • Drinking cold water quickly
  • Holding your breath for 10 seconds
  • Eating a teaspoon of sugar like this guy
     Here are some fun facts about hiccups: The longest case of hiccups was 6 decades. Hiccup originated from the word hiccough meaning respiratory spasm. Another definition would be sobbing while breathing.

FALL RAINBOW!

          So where can you find a fall rainbow? Right after it rains right? Well you can also probably find one if you look outside your window. What do you see? Leaves, right? Aren't they beautiful with all their different colors? Sometimes I wonder why leaves aren't green in the fall. Well, let's find out from where all these beautiful leaves come from in the first place: A TREE!
WOW! That's "pretty" beautiful!
     Me: Hello, how are you today?
 Tree: Well, as my leaves continue to drop off my branches because of all the recent wind and rain, I get colder and colder.
Me: So, can you explain to us about how leaves change color and why they do?
Tree: Leves change colors because the seasons change and there is less light! Therefore, the trees cannot produce chlorophyll for the leaves to be green. 
Me: So why do leaves turn these particular colors? Why not blue or purple?
Tree: Well the chlorophyll covers up things called carotenoids and anthocyanins. They make leaves the color they are and they don't include blue or purple, sadly. 

     So that's how this^ changes to this>  
So, has anyone noticed it's getting cold? Well, that's called seasons! DUH RIGHT?! But, we're talking about how seasons happen. It all has to do with Earth tilting on its axis. If the Northern Hemisphere is facing directly towards the sun like this,: ( the one on the right)

     It will be Summer! So if it's Summer here, then what is it in the Southern Hemisphere? Winter! So when we're having summer in May, June and July, they'll be having Winter! This happens all year round. However, something different happens in the poles. There is all darkness at The Winter Solstice until the beginning of March! It would be kinda creepy...always being dark..BUT, it receives full sunlight through the entire summer! Guess too much of something is bad. How would you sleep?! Anyway, in the South Pole it's just the opposite dates. This happens because on these dates, the Earth is pointed directly at the sun at these locations.

IONS IONS IONS IONS OKAY GOOD I GOT YOUR ATEENTION!

            Hey you guys! I have a question for you... What do you do if your class has more girls than boys? Do you steal some from other schools to be equal? Well that's what some atoms do (except from other atoms) because their electrons are not proportional to the number of protons. These types of atoms are called ions.

      Ok so now on to valence shells. They are the outside shell of the atom. They help with chemical bonds. That brings us onto ionic bonds. They are usually between an anion if it it's a metal. And a cation if it's a non-metal.

Hmm...what do you see?

         Hello there. Would you like to see your future my dear? Just peer into the crystal ball. Beware of what you see.

     Woah! That was weird. I just saw myself teaching you guys...about...hmm what is that? It looks like some sort of rock that's all sparkly. AHA! IT's a crystal! Well..I guess we are learning about crystals! Here's one right here:
     Pretty right? Well crystal is used to make many things. People make crystal jewelry, decorations.... and believe it or not some of them are eaten! Some scientists believe that crystals can be used for healing the mind and body. Oooo!  That's awesome! And, because I know you're wondering, crystal is used in crystal balls, hence the name.

       If you want to find crystals you could look in an extinct volcano under all of the melted lava. You can also find them in rivers. Most of them grow in enclosed spaces underground. So how are crystals made? Basically what crystals are made of is millions of atoms. For example, a common quartz can be made when sand is put under extreme heat and pressure. Also salt is a type of crystal too. It's one of the simpler kind made of only sodium and chlorine atoms. Here are some crystals that grew underground:

      
   I wish I could go down there! It looks awesome. Here are some cool facts: The rarest crystal in the world in is blue garnet.  One 4.2k blue garnet sold for 6.8 million dollars! The biggest crystal in the world in the Golden Julibee Diamond. It is 545.67 carrots.

     Well today we are learning about 4 different elements. Potassium:K, Xenon:XE, Dubnium:DB, Bromine:BR. Well before we start, I just wanted to point out that DB looks like an insanely sad smiley face and also bromine also sounds like brownie! XD. Ok I think we should start with... XENON!


 
         
     William Ramsey and Morris Travers founded Xenon in 1898. That must have been interesting because it is an explosive along with a noble gas...? You can also find Xenon in strobe lights! But it's also really expensive. It has 54 protons and electrons and 77 neutrons.  Oh and a cool fact about it is that it came from the Latin word Xenos meaning strange.

     Above is a picture of some things that have potassium. Potassium's abbreviation is K! It comes from the word "potash". Haha it sounds British.  It was first discovered by Georg Ernest Stahl in 1702. Its atomic number is 19 and therefore has 19 electrons and protons. Potassium has 20 neutrons. It makes up 1.5% of the earths crust and is also essential for plant growth and is a key ingredient in fruits, which we all love!If it is exposed to air it will go KA BOOSH as in like an explosion! It is also part of the alkali metal group.
        Our next element is Bromine, which has many uses. 

     Ew it looks disgursting! But anyway, as nasty as it may look, it is used for water purification, pesticides, photography, flavored sodas and many medicines. It was discovered in 1825 by Carl Jacob Lowig. It has 35 protons and neutrons and 45 neutrons.If you're looking for bromine for some odd reason you should look in The Dead Sea.
     And last but not least: DUBNIUM! There was no pictures but that's because it was named after Dubna, Russia and was discovered by A Russian scientist, Albert Ghiroso, in 1968. It is man-made, as in made in a lab. It has 105 protons and electrons and 157 neutrons.It's in the metal section. Many things about Dubnium are unknown such as the density, and the melting and boiling point. Unfortunately for Dubnium, it has no known uses...but the name is still funny!
